Stephan Assheuer is a chartered naval architect with a wealth of experience in maritime regulatory affairs. Throughout the last decades he has been involved in a wide range of regulatory projects within IMO and IACS, such as the Ballast Water Management Convention, the revision of the Load Line Convention, the revision of SOLAS Chapter XII, the IMO GBS or the IACS Common Structural Rules and so on. Stephan has chaired various Working Groups at IMO and IACS and is well known for his straight-forward and effective way of working. Since 2018 Stephan is nominated by Germany as GBS auditor.
Stephan is currently a Partner and Managing Director of admaris GmbH in Hamburg, a consultancy company specialized in helping maritime administrations of IMO member States to meet their obligations under the various instruments of the Organization. Amongst others he recently was key expert in an EU funded project supporting maritime administrations in the Black Sea and Caspian region or is representing admaris in a regulatory development project for the German Ministry of Transport.
Prior to settting up admaris GmbH, Stephan was working with Germanischer Lloyd in various capacities for more than 15 years. His final position was Vice President and Head of Competence Centre International Regulations and Flag State Affairs in the Head Office in Hamburg, Germany.
