Satya Sahoo is Associate Professor of Shipping Finance and Management at the World Maritime University, Sweden. He holds a PhD degree in Finance from the Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK with the ICMA Centre scholarship. He also holds an MSc in Maritime Affairs, specializing in Shipping Management and Logistics, from WMU and a BEng in Marine Engineering from the Marine Engineering Research Institute (now part of the Indian Maritime University), India. Before embarking on his academic career, Satya worked at Fleet Management Ltd. in Hong Kong as a Marine Engineer.
At WMU, Dr Sahoo teaches subjects related to maritime data analytics, and shipping finance and investment as part of MSc programmes including Shipping Management and Logistics, and Port Management in Malmö, and International Trade and Logistics in Shanghai, China. He is a Programme Co-ordinator for the Postgraduate Diploma in Executive Maritime Management.
Satya has been a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) since 2016 and is the recipient of the “Excellent Paper Award” during the IAME conference held at Mombasa, Kenya in 2018. His research works have been published at such highly regarded journals in the field as Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice and Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review.
Guided by the academic motto of “There is nothing so practical as a good theory” (Kurt Lewin 1890-1947), Dr Satya Sahoo, trained as an applied microeconomist, employs an economic theory and bargaining concepts to better understand pricing behaviours of transactions for shipping assets and services.
