I have been a career bureaucrat in India for 35 years. Currently, I am a member on the Board of the IL&FS (Infrastructure Leasing and Financing Services) and its group companies. It has been a privilege to be appointed on the Board by the Government of India.
Most recently, I have been nominated by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India as the Chairperson of the National Shipping Board. This is a statutory advisory Board within the ambit of the National Shipping Act, 1958.
My academic pursuits culminated in a doctoral degree in Public Policy/ Institutional Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (India). I hold a Master’s degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines and a Master's Degree in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, USA.
I have had my professional mid-career training at the IIAP (Institut Internationale d'Administration Publique), in Paris, France, where I was awarded a diplôme in International Economics. I was nominated by the Government of India for training programmes at Harvard University and at the University of California @ Berkeley.
My career spans over 3 decades both in the field and at the policy level – a major portion of which was in the water, power and industries sector. In each of my assignments, I have focussed on capacity building, introduction of technology and modern management systems and practices, and citizen-friendly initiatives.
I have been the recipient of several academic recognitions - National Merit Scholarship of the Government of India; International Fellowship for Exchange Studies in the USA; the Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship for Higher Education; and the CIDA Scholarship (Canada) for Management Studies. I was awarded the National Merit Scholarship by the Government of India for graduate studies, besides being the recipient of Best Student in my college years (in Science and in French).
In recognition of my professional achievements, I have been invited by academic and professional organizations to contribute to policy making - I was a member of the Government of India Task Force for Water Policy, and a member of sub Task Force on Urban Water Management. Among other engagements, I was invited by the ADB, Manila as a keynote speaker in the 2nd Asian Irrigation Forum. In the CGPCS meeting held in Mauritius in 2017, I was nominated as the Co-Chair of the Working Group on Operation at Sea.
In December 2019, the American Water Works Association (AWWA) – India Chapter sought my assistance to plan and organize their Annual Conference AICE 2019 in Mumbai. In November 2019, I curated the B to B Conference (Water, Waste Water and Solid Waste Sector) for the Consulate of Netherlands, Mumbai.
In Jan 2020, I was invited as an expert on water sector, to make a presentation to the Committee responsible for drafting the new National water Policy for India
