Lydia Ferrad is the ITF Accredited Representative to the IMO, bringing years of seafaring experience and a strong background in maritime advocacy. Graduating as a high seas captain from the High Maritime School of Algeria (ENSM) , Lydia has held various roles throughout her maritime career, primarily serving on tankers and gas carriers. Alongside her operational experience, she has played key leadership roles within the Algerian union.
In addition, Lydia also served as the Technical Advisor for the Norwegian Union of Marine Engineers (NUME) and contributed with her expertise to the ITF Maritime Safety Committee for over a year.
Her academic credentials include a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, a master’s degree in Navigational Science from the ENSM- Algeria, and a Master of Science in Maritime Affairs, specializing in Maritime Energy Management, from the World Maritime University (WMU).
In her current role, Lydia ensures that the views of the ITF are considered when IMO bodies address international instruments, guidelines, and other recommendations. She provides technical support on maritime-related issues on behalf of the ITF and leads or supports any UN, industry, or ITF forum requiring maritime expertise or addressing the general welfare of seafarers.
