After graduating from Ankara University Law School in 2003, Aslıhan Erbas Acıkel completed her Master's in Maritime Law and International Law of the Sea at the University of Hamburg in Germany. In the same year, she started her PhD studies at the Ankara University Social Science Institute. She became a legal trainee at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in 2007 and worked as a legal counsel at the BOTAŞ Bakü Tbilisi Ceyhan Crude Oil Pipeline Project Directorate from 2008 to 2013. During this period, she was included in the legal working groups for the Nabucco and Tanap Natural Gas Pipeline Projects and was involved in negotiations for the related intergovernmental agreements and host government agreements. In 2010, she completed the Ship Finance Diploma Program at the North West College – Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, and in 2012, she obtained a Marine Insurance Postgraduate Diploma from World Maritime University – Lloyd’s Maritime Academy. She has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Kadir Has University Law School since 2015. She teaches courses on Maritime Law, International Law of the Sea, Insurance Law and International Sales Law. She has coordinated the KHAS International Law of the Sea Summer Academy since 2018 and also the Climate Change and Law Laboratory (CCLLAB) since 2022.
