Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Alexis Papathanassis studied at the University of Bath and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He earned his doctorate in Economics from the Leibniz University Hannover, focusing on information and communication systems management in tourism business integrations. Before joining academia, he worked for TUI Group, specializing in IT product management and the integration of European subsidiaries. Since 2005, he has been Professor of Maritime Tourism at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on the cruise industry, with more than 140 academic publications. He currently serves as Rector of the university, Co-Director of the Institute for Maritime Tourism, Chairman of the Cruise Research Society, and is an active consultant to travel operators, cruise lines, and consulting firms.
