WMU Students Launch Volunteer Initiative

On 19 February, students at the World Maritime University (WMU) officially launched the WMU Volunteers. The student-led initiative is dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the maritime sector and beyond, and is rooted in the belief that commitment and education are powerful catalysts to empower individuals, transform attitudes, and face challenges.

The WMU Volunteers seek to build connections with agencies and associations linked to WMU, fostering collaboration for joint contributions to global sustainability efforts. WMU Volunteers promotes active and responsible participation among its members, embracing the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and global citizenship, recognizing that real change begins with dedicated individuals with a vision for a more sustainable maritime future.

Aligned with the values of WMU and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the WMU Volunteers core principles include promoting solidarity, seeking solutions through coordination and a holistic understanding of challenges. Through workshops, educational activities, and hands-on volunteer efforts, WMU Volunteers will work to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to the maritime sector.
