WMU President Visits Jordan

Over the December holidays, President Kjerfve traveled to Jordan and met with the Jordan Maritime Authority (JMA) in Aqaba, where Acting Director General Salah Ali Abu Afifeh (M.Sc. 2002) organized and hosted several meetings. Together they traveled to Amman to meet with H.E. Lina Shbeeb, Minister of Transport; and Eng. Laith H. Dababneh, Secretary General, Ministry of Transport, to discuss opportunities to support Jordanian students to study at WMU.

The JMA was established by WMU graduates, including Acting Director Afifeh and Captain Moh’d Dalabieh (M.Sc. 1990), Executive Manager, Jordan Shipping Association. President Kjerfve made a presentation about WMU's current offerings to some 15 employees of the JMA including two students to enroll in the Class of 2015. The presentation was also attended by Acting Director Afifeh and Captain Dalabieh.

Additional meetings took place with Captain Dalabieh as well as a lunch with Minister Shbeeb, Hussein Souob (M.Sc. 1993) Managing Director AB Maritime, and Dr. Mustafa A. Massad (M.Sc. TMS 1988; and a previous WMU Governor), President of Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies. President Kjerfve also met with a contingent from Al-Balqua Applied University, including Prof. Dr. Tariq A. Al-Azab, Vice President, Dr. Farouq Ahmad Al Azzam, Dean of Aqaba College University, and Captain Yousef Al-Serhan to discuss the maritime topics the new college will offer in Aqaba.
