WMU Delivers Port State Control Course in Stockholm, Sweden

WMU delivered an Executive and Professional Development Course (EPDC) on Port State Control in Stockholm, Sweden from 15-17 December. The course was requested by the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority and brought together participants from Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Latvia. LCDR Jarrod DeWitz, Instructor for the course, expressed his appreciation to the participants for their engagement during the course considering the role that capacity-building for port State control can play in the effective implementation of IMO Conventions.


The aim of the 3-day course was to provide the participants with the foundational knowledge to establish and improve respective Port State Control Programs through effective inspections. Training topics included port state control purpose and concepts; code of conduct; vessel targeting processes; basic application of international requirements to foreign vessels for hull, machinery, fire protection, lifesaving equipment, communications, navigation equipment and systems, safe management, maritime security, and a variety of additional systems as well as practical guidelines on how to examine foreign vessels for compliance and control actions.
