WMU Completes Second Training Course on Energy Efficient Operations of Ships

During the week of 13-17 May, WMU hosted the second of two workshops entitled Train-the-Trainer Initiative on Energy Efficient Operations of Ships. Twenty individuals representing fifteen countries participated in the May event, and another twenty individuals from 18-22 February. The courses were organized by WMU and funded by IMO for selected maritime experts/trainers from various regions of the world. The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) will be a mandatory requirement under the MARPOL Annex VI which will shortly enter into force. This Plan details operational measures to improve the energy efficiency of a ship in a cost-effective manner. The ultimate goal of the training courses is to create a worldwide team of trainers and to enhance awareness on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships to significantly assist related future capacity-building efforts in developing regions.
