Protection and Preservation of the Marine Environment and the Law of the Sea, Colombia

Part two of a customized Professional Development Course was led by WMU Associate Professor, Dr. María Carolina Romero, for Armada Nacional de Colombia (ARC) and Dirección General Maritima (DIMAR) in Colombia 4-8 November. The course focused on Part XIII of the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea and the principal Conventions adopted under the auspices of IMO to protect and preserve the marine environment. The course provided an overview of the activities carried out by international organizations, governmental institutions, and the shipping sector in fulfilling the obligations to protect the environment according to the international legal framework imposed by those conventions. Part one of the customized program for ARC and DIMAR was offered in Colombia 26-30 August by WMU Professor Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs and focused on Maritime Casualty Investigation.
