President of Japanese International Transport Institute Visits WMU

President Makoto Washizu of the Japanese International Transport Institute (JITI), accompanied by his Deputy Director who is a WMU graduate, Tadayuki Uemura, visited WMU on 13 May. The distinguished guests were welcomed by Vice President Academic, Neil Bellafontaine, along with staff and faculty including the Nippon Foundation Chairs, Professor Olof Linden and Professor Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs, and Assistant Professor Lisa Froholdt, the faculty member responsible for WMU’s role in the CSR Symposium planning.

The visit of President Washizu was in connection with JITI’s assistance to the Nippon Foundation for the upcoming Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Symposium that will take place 12 November 2013 at Helsingör, Denmark. The Symposium is a collaborate effort between WMU, BIMCO, and the Danish Shipowners Association (DSA) with generous funding by the Nippon Foundation. The DSA will host a VIP dinner in connection with the event.

JITI is an independent foundation under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and engages in research and surveys of transport related issues in order to facilitate contact among interested parties in the transport field. This is achieved through hosting seminars and providing activities as well as conducting evaluations and recommendations on transport policy issues. JITI has previously hosted CSR conferences in London and Singapore.
