Indian Professorial Chair in Port Management Established

On 2 November, just prior to the Class of 2014 graduation ceremony, an Agreement was signed between WMU and the Government of India establishing the Indian Chair in Port Management. The Agreement was signed by Dr. Vishwapati Trivedi, Secretary for the Ministry of Shipping for the Government of India, Professor Neil Bellefontaine, Acting President of WMU, and witnessed by WMU’s Chancellor, Mr. Koji Sekimizu, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization. The Agreement will support a full Professorial Chair at WMU for a five-year period, benefiting maritime capacity building worldwide through supporting the education of students at WMU.

WMU was the vision of the first IMO Secretary-General, Dr. CP Srivastava, who was from India. With this recent graduation, there are now 129 WMU graduates from India, making it fourth in the countries with the most graduates.
