IMO Secretary-General Addresses WMU Student Body

IMO Secretary-General and WMU Chancellor, Mr. Koji Sekimizu, made a visit to WMU on 7 October. As Mr. Sekimizu was in Copenhagen for the Danish Maritime Forum, he took the opportunity to come to WMU and meet with WMU President, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia Henry, as well as greet the student body.

In his remarks to the students, he encouraged them to take advantage of their time at WMU and to set high goals for themselves not only for their studies, but for their careers. “You are the future leaders of the maritime world,” said Mr. Sekimizu. Noting the importance of the shipping industry to the global economy, Mr. Sekimizu highlighted the importance of the newly adopted UN Global Goals and reiterated that the students will be the leaders to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans.
