Fostering Ties in Kalmar, Sweden

On 5 February, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, WMU President, met with officials at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, home to the Kalmar Maritime Academy (KMA), one of two maritime schools in Sweden. The President was accompanied by Dr. Olof Lindén, Professor and Director of Research & the PhD Programme at WMU.

During the visit, President Doumbia-Henry met with Professor Catherine Legrand, Pro-Rector, of Linnaeus University and Captain Ted Bågfeldt, Head of KMA, as well as several KMA faculty members. The visit also provided the opportunity to meet with students and visit one of the bridge simulators at the KMA. The purpose of the visit was to discuss possible areas of future collaboration between WMU and KMA.

“It was a pleasure to meet with officials from Linnaeus University and the Kalmar Maritime Academy, as well as KMA students. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest and explore areas of cooperation with a view to strengthening the impact of both institutions. In the past, we have mutually welcomed visiting professors from each of our institutions. We have expressed our commitment to continue to strengthen that cooperation going forward,” stated President Doumbia-Henry.
