Delegation from Republic of Korea Visits WMU

On 27 January, WMU welcomed a distinguished delegation from Republic of Korea headed by Dr. SON, JaeHak, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. The delegation visited WMU to discuss ways that Republic of Korea can better support the University. The outcome of the discussions is the distinct possibility that the Ministry will commit to sponsoring a Republic of Korean Chair at WMU. Based on final budget decisions in the fall, and pending final approval, a formal agreement will be arranged establishing the parameters and specialization for the potential Republic of Korea Chair.

Accompanying the Vice Minister were LIM, Hyun-churl, Assistant Minister, Maritime Affairs and Safety Policy Bureau; RYOO, Jaehyung, Director, International Cooperation Division; HONG, Soon Bae, Deputy Director, Maritime Industry and Technology Division; PARK, Youngho, Deputy Director, International Cooperation Division; Principal Adviser, PARK, Han-Seon; LEE, Chi Kyoung, Assistant, Maritime Safety Policy Bureau; BU, Won-Chan, President of the Korea Ship Safety Technology Authority; and RYU Gyoung-Boo, General Manager of the Copenhagen Branch Office, Korean Register of Shipping.

To date, there are 69 WMU graduates from the Republic of Korea, and currently two students in the Class of 2014, including LEE, Chang Yong who served as a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries before joining WMU this past summer.
