Class of 2013 Gifts Tree to Malmö City

The Honorable Kent Andersson, Chairman of the Malmö City Council, was presented with a Metasequoia tree on 13 November as a gift to the City on behalf of the Class of 2013. The fast-growing, deciduous conifer can reach a height of 35 – 45 meters and was planted near the canoe house in Slottsparken,  just a short walk from WMU. The 2013 Student Council President, Ahmed Mohamed Ismael Abdellatif of Egypt, made a short speech thanking the Chairman and the City for their Kindness. In return, Chairman Andersson expressed the importance of WMU to Malmö and thanked the students for their gift.

Each graduating class has presented the City with a gift of thanks and a tree has been the tradition since 2004 when the idea was suggested by students from the Philippines. The City of Malmö determines the type of tree and appropriate location, and the gift is funded by the students.
