The 8th International Symposium "Information on Ships" with speakers from Canada, Korea, Japan and other European was held in Germany's historic Hanseatic city Hamburg on 15th and 16th September. The World Maritime University was represented by , Dr.-Ing. Michael Baldauf, the coordinator of the Swedish-German EU project ADOPTMAN, presented his paper on the technical development of e-Navigation related solutions for enhanced onboard support in case of a person overboard accident. The main objective of the project, which is in collaboration with Stena Line and SSPA Sweden AB as well as the German Marinesoft GmbH, Hochschule Wismar, Department of Maritime Studies, ISSIMS Warnemünde, and Institute for Maritime Safety and Security Technology, is to develop and test suitable methods and tools to provide situation-dependent manoeuvring advice to the officer of the watch. The project's acronym ADOPTMAN stands for "Advanced Planning for Optimised Conduction of coordinated Manoeuvres in Emergency Situations". The project is running under the MARTEC initiative in the frame of the 7th Framework of the European Union. It is funded and supervised by the national organisations VINNOVA (Swe) and PTJ (Germany).
