Lorenzo Schiano di Pepe is a full professor of European Union Law at the University of Genoa, Italy, currently teaching “EU Law” and “International and European Law of the Sea”. He is the scientific co-ordinator of a summer school on “European Union and the Law of the Sea” and teaches “Legal Aspects of Hydrography” at a master’s course programme in “Marine Geomatics”.
Lorenzo holds degrees from the University of Genoa (1997), the University of London (UCL) (1999), Georgetown University Law Center (2000) and the University of Milan (2004).
Mr. Schiano di Pepe has authored or co-authored several monographs, book chapters, essays, articles, encyclopaedic entries and case notes in areas such as public international law, private international law, international and European environmental law, international and European transport law, European institutional law and law of the sea.
He is a member of the Advisory Board on the Law of the Sea (ABLOS) and has been a member of the Italian delegation to UNCITRAL’s Working Group VI on “Judicial Sale of Ships” leading to the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships.
He is the co-editor in chief of the leading Italian environmental law journal “Rivista giuridica dell’ambiente”. He sits on the scientific board various scientific publications, including “Il diritto marittimo”, and on the editorial board of “Diritto del commercio internazionale”. He is also a member of the scientific committee of the Institute for the Law of the Sea and International Marine Environmental Law (ISRIM), based in Bremen, Germany.
He has been a member of the governing board of the Italian Maritime Law Association and is currently a member of the governing board of the Italian Association of European Law Scholars. He is also the co-ordinator of the interest group on law of the sea of the Italian Society of International Law.
He is a member of the international working group of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) on “offshore activities”.
