Alcino Ferreira has taught English as a second language for almost 30 years, 20 of which in higher education. He specializes in maritime and naval English and English for science and engineering. He was a researcher at the CREAD (Center for Research in Education and Didactics), in Brittany, France, until 2025, with an interest in games and play for teaching learning. He has been a regular contributor to the International Maritime English Conference (IMEC) since 2014.
