WMU Participates in Maritime Day 2014, Åland

For the second year in a row, WMU participated as an exhibitor at the Maritime Day event held in Mariehamn, Åland on 15 May. The event  included roughly 1000 participants and took place at the Alandica Kultur & Kongress with a dinner hosted by the newly renovated Åland Maritime Museum. WMU was represented by Associate Academic Dean Patrick Donner and Senior Faculty Specialist, Mia Hedin. Former students, visiting lecturers, field study hosts, and representatives from the Åland government were among the individuals who visited the WMU stand.

Professor Donner made a presentation during the “Speakers Corner” where stakeholders had a chance to address the participants in an informal way. During the presentation he spoke about WMU and mentioned his close link to Åland as a former teacher at Åland University and member of the City Council in Mariehamn.

Ålands Sjöfart (Åland Maritime Society) was founded in 1939 and its aim is to take advantage of the Åland ships and seafarers' interests.
