United Nations-Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme Global Alumni Meeting

 

Famara Drammeh of Gambia, WMU's first Research Fellow under the prestigious United Nations-Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme, recently attended the programme's Global Alumni meeting, held in Tokyo from 28 November-3 December 2014.

The United Nations- Nippon Foundation of Japan Global Alumni Network includes 100 alumni from 64 developing States. Famara reported that he thoroughly enjoyed the Alumni Meeting in Tokyo, and was very pleased to be able to report to Dr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman, and Mr. Mitsuyuki Unno, Executive Director, of the Nippon Foundation about how much he had enjoyed and benefited from his time at WMU.

Famara carried out research into climate change-induced rise in sea level under the supervision of Professor Larry Hildebrand from July to December 2013. He was succeed as UN Fellow at WMU by Mariam Fawole Rita from Sao Tome & Principe, who was a holder of the Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Memorial Fellowship in 2014. In 2015, WMU is looking forward to welcoming its third Fellow, Mr. Ayonkunle Fatubarin of Nigeria.
