Ocean Governance Research – a shared interest for the University of Tokyo/the Mitsubishi Research Institute and WMU

On July 2nd 2015, a group of researchers from the University of Tokyo / Mitsubishi Research Institute visited WMU to discuss the three parties’ shared research interest in Ocean Governance.

Representing the University of Tokyo were Professor Hideaki Shiroyama and Mr. Naoyuki Kanno, Research Associate, whilst Mr. Tomohiko Tsunoda and Mr. Masanori Muto represented the Mitsubishi Research Institute. Their joint project is called, "ESPRIT - Emerging Strategic domain Policy Research platform In inTernational relationship". 

The distinguished guests met with representatives of the WMU Faculty, Professor Neil Bellefontaine, Professor Larry Hildebrand, Professor Aykut Olcer, Associate Professor Aref Fakhry, and Assistant Professor Momoko Kitada to exchange ideas about the research scope of Ocean Governance, including policy trends, ocean security, marine environment, and maritime energy.

The delegation was further invited to meet a couple of WMU researchers in the area of Ocean Governance and security, Ms. Jennie Larsson and Dr. Khanssa Lagdami.
