METPROM Final Conference

The final conference of the Modular Enhanced Training Programme for Port Security Personnel project  (METPROM) took place on 22 April at Piri Reis University, Tuzla, Istanbul, Turkey. Associate Professor, Dr. Michael Baldauf, together with Research Associate, Aditi Kataria, of the MaRiSa research group presented WMU's research contribution to the two-year project. A notable outcome developed by WMU is a course framework for an e-Learning system that was developed utilizing simulation-based elements. The web-based course is intended for personnel responsible for security duties in harbour environments. The course has already successfully been used in WMU's Masters program and presented in professional development courses.

In attendance at the conference were dignitaries from the Maritime Security-Centre of Excellence Turkish Navy (MARSEC-COE ), the Turkish Coast Guard, the Turkish Association of private security companies (GUSOD), and the Rector and Dean of Piri Reis University among other University participants. METPROM project partners, the University of Wismar, Germany and STC group from the Netherlands, also participated in the event. For more on the project, visit http://www.metprom.eu/
