MaRiSa won a third EU project

The MaRiSa Research Group has won a third EU research project in the space of a year. TeamSafety, which follows in the wake of IMPACT and ADOPTMAN, aims to develop an innovative 3D virtual team-training maritime safety simulation platform to meet the latest EU safety requirements for sea and seafarers’ emergency response training.

WMU is leading the project which will run for two years from November 2010. The total project budget is €2.8 million, of which €2.2 is funded by the EU; WMU will receive €300,000.

The prototype to be delivered will be an interactive simulation environment for seafarer training. Trainees will be able to practice situation and cue assessment, problem diagnosis, decision making, and response to a critical incident, as though they were physically on-site. The aim is toprovide efficient training that will allow stakeholders across the maritime sector to meet the EU’s strict legislative requirements, operate more safelyand minimise accidents and pollution. TeamSafety will be carried out in partnership with the Nautical Institute (UK), the Danish Innovation Institute, PERA (UK), and Unity Studios of Denmark, along with commercial MET providers, Ask Safety of Norway, the Bulgarian Maritime Training Centre and Sea & Shore Safety Services Ltd.of Ireland.  It falls under the EU's Specific Programme, CAPACITIES, part of the 7th Framework Programme, and belongs to the theme "Research for the Benefit of SMEs Associations".
