IAMU Extraordinary IEB Meeting, Tokyo

On 27 February, WMU President, Dr. Björn Kjerfve, attended the Extraordinary International Executive Board (IEB) meeting of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) in Tokyo. The new IAMU Secretary, WMU Professor Dr. Takeshi Nakazawa, chaired a Forum that on "Maritime Education and Training in Higher Education." Mr. Glenn Blackwood from Canada, Vice-President of Memorial University for the Fisheries and Marine Institute, was elected as the new Chair. There were three keynote addresses, two of which were delivered by individuals with close connections to WMU. Andreas Nordseth, Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority is a WMU Governor and Dr. Maximo Q. Mejia, Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority of the Philippines, remains on leave of absence from WMU as a Professor and is a WMU alumnus (M.Sc. 1994 (MSA(N)). IAMU receives significant support from The Nippon Foundation and the meetings concluded with a courtesy visit with Dr. Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation.
