French Friends of WMU (Les Amis de l’UMM)

The French Friends of WMU (Association des Amis de l'UMM) is one of the longest-established and most active of the world-wide network of WMU support associations.  In recent years, their support has generously provided an annual prize – le Prix Pierre Leonard - awarded to the best female student on the Malmö MSc program, the establishment of the Pierre Houssin Room for doctoral students, and the recent decision to donate an official vehicle to the University.

At a recent Council Meeting of the French Friends in Paris, Mr. Alain Le Guillard was elected as the new President of the Association, replacing Mr. Bernard Dujardin, and Dr. Bernard Francou became the new Secretary General of the Association, replacing Mr. Loic Courcoux.

Mr. Le Guillard is Chief Executive Officer, Operations, of Louis Dreyfus Shipping; a well-known figure in the maritime world, he has spent his whole career with Dreyfus, starting as a ship’s officer.  Dr. Francou was a faculty member at WMU until his retirement in 2004.  An international expert in shipping and port economics and management, Dr Francou has also worked as a UN expert and a consultant, and has been closely involved with the activities of the French Friends over many years.

The Association of French Friends of WMU has been a key supporter of the University over many years, and the WMU community is deeply grateful to Mr. Dujardin and Mr. Courcoux for their leadership and their generous devotion of time and effort to the University, and looks forward to working closely with Mr. Le Guillard and Dr. Francou.
