EPDC Delivered at Myanmar Department of Marine Administration

WMU delivered an Executive Professional Development Course (EPDC) on “Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers” to administrators, supervisors, trainers and assessors in the Myanmar Maritime Education and Training System from 5 to 9 September,. The course was arranged under the auspices of the Myanmar Ministry of Transport and Communications’ Department of Marine Administration and led by Dr. Michael Manuel, WMU Associate Professor.

The main objective of the EPDC was to acquaint the participants with the international legal, administrative and operational requirements for the assessment, examination and certification of seafarers. The course also allowed for the provision of guidance in support of national capacity building for compliance with Regulation I/6 of the 1978 STCW Convention (as amended).

Delivery of the course supports the capacity building initiatives agreed to in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between WMU and the Department of Marine Administration in January of 2015. Through customized executive courses, WMU meets the educational needs and requirements of particular organizations and actively supports the commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all.
