Commandant of Pakistan Marine Academy Visits WMU

On 15 March, Commodore Akbar Naqi, Commandant of the Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA), paid an official visit to the World Maritime University.

The Commandant met with Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, WMU President, Professor Shuo Ma, Vice-President International, and Professor Neil Bellefontaine, Vice-President Academic. In welcoming Commodore Akbar Naqi, the President indicated WMU’s desire to support capacity building for national maritime academies. In the afternoon, the Commodore addressed WMU staff and students.

PMA was established in 1962 and is the only institution in the public sector in Pakistan for training of seafarers. There are currently 47 graduates of WMU from Pakistan, and Raza Ali Mehdi, WMU Research Assistant and member of the Maritime Risk and Safety (MaRiSa) Research Group, is currently pursuing PhD studies.
