Ceremonial Bricklaying for New WMU Building

On 7 May 2012 there was a ceremonial bricklaying for the new University facilities at the historic Tornhuset site in central Malmö. Many members of the Board of Governors were present as well as Torbin Skaanild, Chairman of the WMU Executive Board.  Bricks were laid by WMU Chancellor E. E. Mitropoulos, IMO Secretary‐General Koji Sekimizu, Malmö Mayor Ilmar Reepalu, and WMU President Björn Kjerfve.

The hopeful completion date for the project is late fall 2013 in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of WMU as well as the graduation of the Class of 2013. The nearly 5,500 m2 facility will essentially double WMU’s current floor space. The historic Tornhuset, new addition, and furnishings are generously being provided by the City of Malmö.

A building campaign to raise funds for equipping the spaces to the highest technical standards for communication and research are ongoing. More information about the new building and the fund-raising campaign can be found by clicking on the links below.
