Board of Governors Meeting, 2014

The 32nd annual meeting of the WMU Board of Governors (BoG) took place in Malmö on 5 May. The meeting was preceded by a dinner on Sunday evening at the Old City Hall hosted by the City of Malmö. President Kjerfve, who made public his resignation on 6 May, was presented with a farewell gift on behalf of Malmö City by Kent Andersson, Chairman of the Malmö City Council and WMU Governor.

At the BoG meeting, 22 out of 30 governors were in attendance including the most recently appointed governors, Kent Andersson, Chairman, Malmö City Council; Dr. Rosalie P. Balkin, Assistant Secretary-General (ret.), International Maritime Organization (IMO); Nicolaos Charalambous, Director, Technical Co-operation Division of IMO and WMU Alumnus (M.Sc. MSA(E) 1986); Mr. Eric Dawicki, President, Northeast Maritime Institute; Dr. Sajid Hussain, Commandant, Bangladesh Marine Academy and WMU Alumnus (M.Sc. MSA(E ) 1998); and Revd Canon Ken Peters, Director of Justice & Public Affairs, The Mission to Seafarers. As observers, the BoG was attended by Executive Board Chairman Torben Skaanild, and two representatives of the Auditor General of Ghana, Mr. Erik Bortey Lamptey, and Mr. Richard A. Asiedu.

The Board approved the financial outcome for 2013, accepted the unqualified opinion by the External Auditors, Auditor-General of Ghana, and approved the final budget for 2014 and initial budget for 2015. The Governors also expressed their unanimous appreciation of the service of President Kjerfve over the past five years.
