ACCSEAS 2nd Annual Conference, Edinburgh

The ACCSEAS 2nd Annual Conference was held in Edinburgh on 4 March 2014 and opened by HRH, Princess Royal, Princess Anne. The Accessibility for Shipping, Efficiency Advantages and Sustainability (ACCSEAS) research project focuses on e-Navigation in the North Sea region. WMU is a partner of the project consortium and focuses specifically on investigations into the needs and approaches to training and education for the future e-Navigation environment.

The conference presented preliminary results of the ACCSEAS project, including selected application cases of new technology, to experts and practitioners from all sectors of the maritime field. WMU Associate Professor, Dr. Michael Baldauf, chaired a dedicated workshop on e-Navigation and Maritime Education and Training together with Anders Brödje, Senior Coordinator of the Research and Innovation Group at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

HRH Princess Anne has a keen interest in technological developments to ensure safety of human life at sea. Recognizing the importance of the ACCSEAS project, the Princess Royal accepted the invitation to be the VIP guest of the event. She opened the conference and had successive discussions over tea with the researchers regarding new and enhanced services and tools to improve maritime safety.
