Transport Canada Presentation

On 28 February, WMU welcomed Mr. Donald Roussel, Acting Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of Safety and Security from Transport Canada. After meeting with Vice President Academic, Neil Bellefontaine, Canadian Chair Professor Larry Hildebrand, and Associate Professor Aref Fakhry, Mr. Roussel made a presentation to the many of the M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. The topic of focus was Current and Future Issues in Marine Transportation.

Since 2008, Mr. Roussel held the position of Director General of Marine Safety at Transport Canada and was responsible for marine security policy, regulatory affairs, and operations.  In January 2014, he accepted the role of Acting Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of Safety & Security of Transport Canada, the portfolio of which includes marine as well as air, rail, and road safety and security as well the transportation of dangerous goods. He is the Chairman of the Canadian Marine Advisory Council and the Canadian representative at numerous International Maritime Organization and International Labour Organization meetings for the marine sector.
