2013 ESSP Comes to a Close
WMU welcomed 37 students into the intensive 3-month English Study Skills Program (ESSP) that began in June. The program’s curriculum is designed to upgrade the English language competences of the participants so they are comfortable and confident with maritime English. ESSP may be taken as a pre-cursor to WMU M.Sc. programs, or as a stand-alone course. The core skills areas include speaking and presentations, listening and reading comprehension, and writing. These skills are complemented with computer, library, and research workshops.
On 12 September, the 2013 ESSP students completed their studies, and the 13 students who enrolled only for the ESSP program will now return home. The remaining students will join the Class of 2014 M.Sc. program in Malmö. Overall the 2013 group represented 11 countries, including Algeria, Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Peru, Senegal, and Thailand.
