On 27 November, President Doumbia-Henry welcomed Commandant of the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Admiral Karl L. Schultz, to WMU. The visit provided the opportunity for Admiral Schultz to address the Faculty, Staff and Students of the University on the topic "Building a Stronger Maritime Domain through Global Partnerships".

Malmö Latin High School Visits WMU

The World Maritime University (WMU) had the pleasure of welcoming 60 students from Malmö Latin School, an upper secondary school in Malmö, to participate in interactive and creative workshops focused on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The visit took place on United Nations Day, 24 October, and focused on solutions to meet the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular, Goal 6 focused on water and sanitation, and Goal 14 focused on the ocean.

Official Visit of the Minister of Transport of Malaysia

On 28 June, WMU welcomed His Excellency Mr. Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport of Malaysia and officials from the Ministry. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the opportunities for further collaboration on a range of issues of common interest. The President thanked the Minister for his decision to donate EUR 50,000 to WMU to replace its van, as well as previous pledges made by the Malaysian government. On 17 June, President Doumbia-Henry welcomed to WMU the Hon Sir Judge Enrico Silvestro Ravera, President of the Genoa Court and Lawyer, Professor Carlo Golda, from the University of Genoa.

Students in the Maritime Law & Policy and Maritime Energy Management specializations had the opportunity to attend a presentation by Judge Ravera who was a labor judge in the Costa Concordia case. Judge Ravera presented the investigative and legal issues surrounding the Costa Concordia maritime accident which “represents a unique and multidisciplinary case in terms of complexity of the actors involved,”

On 1 March, President Doumbia-Henry was welcomed to the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) by Ms Maja Markovčić Kostelac, Executive Director of EMSA. The courtesy visit provided the opportunity to discuss fellowships administered by EMSA and potential areas of cooperation in areas of research and capacity-building.
