WMU and EMSA Cooperate on Capacity Building and Research

The World Maritime University (WMU) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) have signed a Cooperation Agreement on matters of capacity building and research with particular emphasis on the design, development and delivery of joint training activities and modules falling under common areas of interest and research. In addition, it provides for Field Study Training exchanges for WMU students and EMSA beneficiaries as well as the exchange of lecturers.

WMU and Port Klang Free Zone of Malaysia sign MoU

The World Maritime University (WMU) and Port Klang Free Zone SDN BHD (PKFZ), Port Klang, Malaysia signed on 26 November, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) relating to cooperation in the field of maritime education, research, training and capacity-building with a view to develop and strengthen academic cooperation and capacity-building.


The MOU covers five areas of cooperation as follows:


     a) distance learning education offered by WMU;


     b) research, in the fields of shipping, port management and the protection of the marine environment;


     c) field study training

On 19 June, WMU President, Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, delivered a keynote address at the East Med Maritime Conference, which took place in Beirut, Lebanon, from 19-20 June 2019.

On 14 June, WMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Higher Institute of Maritime Studies (ISEM) headquartered in Casablanca, Morocco. The MOU was signed by Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU and Dr. Mohamed Briouig, Director of ISEM.


ISEM is one of seven institutions with whom a review and evaluation process was successfully concluded and approved by the WMU Board of Governors at its 37th Session in May 2019. On 28 May, WMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CETENA S.p.A, a company within the Fincantieri Group, is dedicated to research and consultancy in the naval and maritime field. Since the foundation in 1962, CETENA has been involved in national and international research activities and has carried out research and consultancy and technical assistance for shipyards, shipowners, navies and universities.

MoU with Bangladesh Marine Academy

On 21 May, WMU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Marine Academy (BMA). The MoU was signed by Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU and Dr. Sajid Hussain CEng, Commandant of the Bangladesh Marine Academy. The agreement provides for strengthened cooperation between the two institutions to support the education of maritime leaders. The MoU includes provision for one fellowship to be funded annually by BMA for their faculty to study in the Malmö MSc programme.
