Almedalen

Almedalen

Almedalen is a week-long, annual event where each major political party in Sweden hosts one day. It has been arranged for over 40 years, starting in 1968 by Mr Olof Palme, Swedish Prime Minister 1968-1976, and brings a unique blend of political and non-govermental organizations together to discuss relevant issues. Events are centered around Almedalen, a park in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland, and seminars are free for everyone to attend.

An increasingly ice-diminished environment in the Arctic is accelerating interest and potential for new maritime trade routes, merchant transportation, and resource development such as mining, oil & gas exploration, tourism and fishing. The IMO and the Arctic Council have been focused on ‘Safe Arctic Shipping’ through the recently adopted Polar Code and as a key theme among the Arctic Council’s priorities. The World Maritime University plays a key role in conducting research on, and building capacity in, Arctic issues and governance.

WMU Regional Alumni Conference - Yangon, Myanmar

Offered in partnership with the Myanmar Department of Marine Administration, the WMU Regional Alumni Conference will take place in Yangon, Myanmar from 27-28 January 2015. Echoing the Maritime Education and Training (MET) theme for World Maritime Day 2015, the event will focus on MET as a Catalyst of Industry Growth. The event is open to all WMU graduates from the Asia and Oceania regions and is intended to further promote connections among the priceless global network of WMU alumni.

The Oresund Maritime Talent Pool (OMTP) is a partnership consisting of the WMU Student Council, the Copenhagen Business School, and Nul-Kryds from the Danish University of Technology. OMTP aims to strengthen the cooperation between these three students networks through knowledge sharing and by arranging networking events focusing on the shipping industry.
