In 2020, WMU will host an alumni homecoming conference at the University headquarters in Malmö, Sweden. The conference is planned for 9-11 June with the theme WMU 2020: Building Global Maritime and Ocean Capacity for Sustainable Development.
Second WMU Regional Conference for the Americas
The objective of the Second WMU Regional Conference for the Americas is to bring together government representatives, industry actors, international organizations, maritime and ocean training institutions, experts in the field and WMU alumni to discuss the opportunities and challenges for the development and implementation of maritime transport and ocean policies in the region.
43rd Annual Center for Oceans Law & Policy Conference - BBNJ
The Center for Oceans Law and Policy (COLP), University of Virginia School of Law, the World Maritime University–Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute, and The Nippon Foundation are the primary co-sponsors of the 43rd COLP Annual Conference to be held at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden, from 14-17 May 2019. The conference title is Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction: Intractable Challenges & Potential Solutions and the event features many of the world's leading experts on their topics.

Ocean Literacy 2018
The Ocean Literacy 2018 conference will be held in Malmö, Sweden 6-7th December. The aim is to inspire, learn, debate and drive action at a local level for the marine environment with focus on ocean literacy in coastal cities.

WMU Global Ocean Conference 2018
In 2018, the World Maritime University (WMU) will celebrate 35 years of excellence in education, research and capacity building. The International Maritime Organization (IMO), which established WMU in 1983, will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Looking back at WMU’s legacy of 35 years in postgraduate education, research and capacity-building in maritime and ocean affairs, the University is celebrating this milestone year by convening the Global Ocean Conference 2018 - that will coincide with the inauguration of the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute (Global Ocean Institute).
