Introduced in 2014, the Maritime Energy PgDip provides up-to-date analyses of current initiatives and future developments in energy efficient shipping. The 12-month programme is comprised of five modules and begins in September. Module one is an Introduction to Energy Management and the International Response in Shipping. Subsequent modules address energy efficiency in relation to ship design and operations, energy management on-board ship, and alternative fuels and marine renewable energy. Participants are assessed by five assignments and the programme ends with a final examination which is held in Malmö, Sweden but which may also be arranged elsewhere on request.

The syllabus, delivered online, addresses all of these factors - essential regulatory, technical, strategic and operational issues - over five detailed study modules:

  • Introduction to Energy Management and the International Response in Shipping
  • Energy Efficiency and Ship Design
  • Energy Efficient Ship Operations
  • Energy Management On-board Ship
  • Alternative Fuels and Marine Renewable Energy
