Almedalen

Almedalen is a week-long, annual event where each major political party in Sweden hosts one day. It has been arranged for over 40 years, starting in 1968 by Mr Olof Palme, Swedish Prime Minister 1968-1976, and brings a unique blend of political and non-govermental organizations together to discuss relevant issues. Events are centered around Almedalen, a park in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland, and seminars are free for everyone to attend.

This year the order is set as follows:

Sunday 28 juni, Centerpartiet
Monday 29 juni, Socialdemokraterna
Tuesday 30 juni, Kristdemokraterna
Wednesday 1 juli, Sverigedemokraterna
Thursday 2 juli, Miljöpartiet.
Friday 3 juli, Moderaterna
Saturday 4 juli, Vänsterpartiet
Sunday 5 juli, Folkpartiet

For the past several years, WMU has hosted seminars during the week. Last year's topic of discussion was; “Global Environmental and Safety Issues of Maritime Transport: Is There Any Progress?” Specific information about this year's date and topic with be forthcoming.
