WMU has 3,477 alumni from 164 countries, increasing by ~200 graduates annually. The alumni maintain close linkages, creating a unique maritime global network. Graduates hold key posts in maritime education, governments, maritime administrations, ports and shipping companies, or represent their governments internationally.

Prominent alumni include Michael Luguje of Ghana (M.Sc. 2004 PM) Secretary General of the Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa, Captain Sunil Thapar of India (M.Sc. 1996 SM) Chairman and Managing Director of the Shipping Corporation of India, Rear Admiral Ivan Valenzeula Bosne (M.Sc. 1994 MSAN) Director of Maritime Security and Operations Commendant for Armada de Chile, Neelima Vyas of India (M.Sc. 2000 PM), Chief Operating Officer for the Port of Sohar in Oman, HE Binali Yıldırım (M.Sc. 1991 MSEA) Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs, and Communications for the Republic of Turkey, and HE Ismet Yılmaz (M.Sc 1990 TMS) Minister of National Defence for the Republic of Turkey.
