Ms Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga was appointed Deputy Minister of Transport on 5 August 2021. She was Deputy Minister of Public Service and Administration from 30 May 2019 to 5 August 2021.
Previously, Ms Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga was the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of South Africa from 26 May 2014 and she has been a member of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa since 2004.
Academic Qualifications
Ms Chikunga holds a Masters of Arts degree in Curationis From University of Pretoria; Bachelor of Arts degree in Curationis from University of South Africa; and Bachelor of Arts Curationis Honours from University of South Africa and a Diploma in Nursing Science from the Edenvale Nursing College; a Midwifery Diploma from the Edenvale Nursing College. She is currently studying Political Science with University of South Africa.

As a member of Parliament Ms Chikunga has served on the Correctional Services Portfolio Committee; Joint Budget Portfolio Committee; HousingPortfolio Committee; Auditor General and Joint Standing Committee on Defence and as a Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police from 2009 to 2012.
She was an Ex Officio Member of African National Congress ANC) Regional Executive Committee and she had served on the African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) Regional Executive Committee as Ex Officio Member and ANC Deputy Regional Secretary and Regional Secretary for Gert Sibande Region.
Ms Chikunga has also served as a Chairperson of ANCWL branch in Queen Lebotsibeni; Regional Task Team Member Realignment of branches and ANCWL Regional Secretary for Badplaas Region and she became a member of DCO Makiwane Youth League in 1982; ANC Provincial Executive Committee in Mpumalanga and had served as a whip from 2007 to 2009. She has been the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of South Africa from 12 June 2012 to date.
