After having graduated from Uppsala University with a Master of the Laws degree in 1989, Ms Gelin joined the Swedish civil service. The first port of call was the National Board of Transport where she dedicated her time to international road transport matters.
In 1991, it was time to change the course slightly by beginning a period of five years at the National Board of Trade where Ms Gelin dealt with a wide range of EU and trade related matters.
The transport background was useful when Ms Gelin in 1996 began her ministerial career at the (former) Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications. During the period 2001 – 2004, Ms Gelin was transport counsellor at the Swedish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels, where she was dealing with and negotiating new pieces of legalisation in the fields of road, railways and aviation.
In the autumn of 2004, Ms Gelin was introduced to the fourth mode of transport when she joined the Swedish Maritime Administration, where she upheld the position of Head of Unit and of Director of the Department of Maritime Policy and Public Affairs for five years.
In 2010, Ms Gelin returned to the Government’s offices where she is currently Deputy Director-General and Head of Division for Transport Markets and Regulations at the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. Her area of responsibility is national and national regulatory development for all modes of transport and market issues incl. shipping and integrated maritime policy.
